This stunning debut captures the grotesque madness of a mystical under-land, as well as a girl’s pangs of first love and independence. Alyssa Gardner hears the whispers of bugs and flowers—precisely the affliction that landed her mother in a mental hospital years before. This family curse stretches back to her ancestor Alice Liddell, the real-life inspiration for Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Alyssa might be crazy, but she manages to keep it together. For now.

When her mother’s mental health takes a turn for the worse, Alyssa learns that what she thought was fiction is based in terrifying reality. The real Wonderland is a place far darker and more twisted than Lewis Carroll ever let on. There, Alyssa must pass a series of tests, including draining an ocean of Alice’s tears, waking the slumbering tea party, and subduing a vicious bandersnatch, to fix Alice’s mistakes and save her family. She must also decide whom to trust: Jeb, her gorgeous best friend and secret crush, or the sexy but suspicious Morpheus, her guide through Wonderland, who may have dark motives of his own.

I think I may have found my new favorite book. I finished reading Splintered by A.G. Howard and I can’t get this book out of my head, it is really that good. A.G. Howard takes Alice in Wonderland and makes you focus on if it was actually real and the fairy tale was based on more than just someone’s imagination. The writing in this story is beautiful and well done. You feel like you are Alyssa and have travelled to Wonderland to save your family from the curse.

The characters are great and I couldn’t get enough of them. Alyssa, Jeb, and Morpheus are my new favorite trio. I am not kidding, I loved them all and hated some in certain times of the books. The twists of the book, I didn’t see coming and didn’t even think of them but wow were they twists all right!

The descriptions of everything in Wonderland and that was happening in the story were very well written for the reader to really see it. I actually would love for this book to become a movie and also to have a second book written in the after of what happens to Alyssa, without giving too much away, you can definitely see some sort of second book with Alyssa.

Would I read this story again? Over and over. Would I recommend this book to people? I already have! Would I put A.G. Howard as an author that you want to watch and read anything they can put out? For sure!

From the cover to the beginning sentence of Splintered I was in love and hooked. Read it, I know you’ll love it as much as I do. It comes out January 1, 2013 so watch out for it, it’ll definitely be on peoples top lists for 2013!

Hi! I'm Sabriena. Reading is my hobby and although this site has been many things, it is now a book website for reviews and different things. I am married and have a 3 year old son who also enjoys reading as much as I do.
