When you’re lost, sometimes the only place you can go is home.

Broken over the death of her fiancé, Molly leaves law school to return to her childhood home in North Carolina. Expecting to lay low until she can figure out what else to do with her life, she finds herself in the arms of her high school sweetheart, the boy who represents everything from the past she tried to leave behind.

Looking for an escape, she instead finds a way back to the girl she almost forgot existed and a future she never dreamed possible.

Derailed was not what I was expecting it to be and I quite enjoyed that aspect of it. Molly was in law school when she lost her fiance. You don’t really know how her fiance has died but you can tell that it has rocked her world to the core. She decides she needs to take a new direction with her life and goes back to her home in North Carolina. She runs into her old boyfriend, Ben and you find out that she never really stopped loving him. They separated abruptly after her father died and then she went off to school.

The two of them reconnected pretty much instantly no matter how Molly tried to stop it. However, it wasn’t without turmoil. She decided that their relationship should be purely sexual, because that works out never.

Finally towards the end of the book you find out what happened to her fiance and what happened to her Dad. I do have to say that when she got the email from her deceased fiance I was pretty annoyed at him. I mean, without giving it away, who does that?

The ending, how I swooned at it. I loved it so much and it really brought the book together I thought. This was a fantastic first book in the Clayton Falls series and made me love a lot of the characters and quickly went into the second book. I do recommend this book however, I wish that you didn’t have to wait until the near end of the book to find out what the heck was going on with the deaths.

Only when you let go can you learn to live.

Between the death of her mother and pushing through law school without her best friend, it’s been a tough year for Becca. Needing a break from Boston, she moves to a tiny coastal North Carolina town for a relaxing summer. After bumping heads repeatedly with a local cop, she realizes her summer will be anything but quiet.

Three years after a career ending injury ruins his chance to play Major League Baseball, Gavin has a distrust of northerners and lately girls in general. He wants nothing to do with a girl who is only in town for the summer.

When the two give in to their impossible attraction, they realize that they may just have found the key to freeing themselves from the ghosts of their pasts.

Becca made an appearance in the first Clayton Falls book, Derailed as Molly’s friend in law school. However, she didn’t play a huge role in the book and now here she is. In Derailed we did know that her mother was sick with cancer and in the beginning of Veer we find that her mother has passed away and she needs a break from Boston so she goes to visit Molly in North Carolina.

There aren’t too many new characters in Veer as they have all mostly been introduced in Derailed if only little parts here and there.  Gavin, as we know from Derailed who went after Molly, is the guy that Becca is drawn to but she doesn’t want to be and the feelings are mutual. There is a lot of attraction and passion with these two and you can feel it. It’s a love to hate type thing at first until they have a night where the unthinkable happens and they sleep together. This opens up a whole can of worms as Gavin is a complete jerk about it afterwards.

They both have their problems which you find out about and Becca’s is pretty much a shocker. I enjoyed the little twists of the story and thought that they were well done. When I first began this book and found it wasn’t about Molly and Ben I thought I would hate it. I loved it. Definitely read this book if you have read Derailed.
