Today when we went to Walmart we checked out in self check like we usually do. There was five of us there so we had about 4 different times we had to go through the check out. Well on my moms the card wouldn't go through. They had new card things and it just wouldn't swipe it. It weirdly declined it and then it just wouldn't swipe. Now, I used to work a self check station that was the same set up and system as Walmarts when I worked at Home Depot. I know when a payment is declined you can see it on the monitor that you watch. Not to mention that my husband was even trying my moms card and it just wouldn't take it.
I was watching the girl which was running the self check watching us and when she caught me looking she would look away. Of course this is when everyone's tempers got short. Then finally she comes over when my husband calls for her. She gives us a look like "how dare you make me work" and comes over. She swipes the card while having her back to us (no smile, no anything) and then says rudely, "you have to swipe the card faster." Then she walked back to her stand and continued the dirty looks. Whatever.
Next person has a totally different card and swipes it fast. Doesn't work. So we're all laughing and saying yea swiping it fast helps alright. So, Nick figures out that it isn't the speed but that you have to start from the bottom of the thing. Then my mom has to do another ring up and the card needs to have authorization. No clue why, no one checks anyone's ID around here. We bought my laptop and they didn't even check my ID. On two separate cards and no ID checked. Anyway, so she stomps over with attitude. Oh man she had to walk and work again.
So we finish up and my walks over to her and says, "It's not how fast you swipe it you have to swipe it from the bottom." Which then the girl says to my mom "I don't care." Nice. My mom has a short temper and especially if you are just a young person with an attitude for no reason. So my mom tells her that she didn't have to have such an attitude. Of course the girl (with an attitude) says that she doesn't have an attitude.
This is one of the reasons people hate Walmart. Did I mention that prior to this my sister and her boyfriend were waiting for one of their associates in the infant isle that one of the others called on? They waited for about 15 minutes and no one ever showed up. Oh someone did pass us multiple times which we think is who they were waiting on.
What did we learn today? Don't make people that work at Walmart work.

I seriously hate Wal-Mart - there is maybe one or two nice people who WORK at my local one - the rest are just as you described. My mother in law works at Wally in my hometown - suits her well. Ugh.

Wal-Mart is good at what they do. They provide goods cheap. You don't go to wal-mart for the service or the experience (like target) or because its clean... you go because you can get 5 shirts for $15.

To me, Walmart is about getting things cheap. I loved it as a college student, but hate it as an adult. I rather pay a few cents more for a little better service. But then again, not everyone has that option.
