Pregnancy: Blood Pressure Back Up

Posted in Pregnancy on March 9th, 2010 by Sabriena – Be the first to comment

We had our doctor appointment today and unfortunately the blood pressure is back on the rise, even with the medication. They said I had a little bit or protein in my urine which was alright for them. However, now I have to go back in in a week to get it taken and if it’s still high then I get more labs done. I’m guessing that it’s blood work. I’m hoping it’s not another 24 hour urine sample!

Getting so close to the end and I was hoping that the blood pressure would have stayed level! However, whatever happens happens and we’ll just roll with the punches.

A tiny bit over three weeks and we’ll be considered full term. That is super excited. Full term on April Fool’s Day!

On unrelated news, the weather is finally getting warmer. We were in the 50s today and almost into 60! In fact, tomorrow is set to be 60. Of course there is rain coming with it but it is so nice not being freezing cold! I don’t mind winter but you just can’t beat the sunshine!

Ultrasound at 32 weeks

Well, last Tuesday we had another ultrasound to check out how the cyst was doing as well as the baby. Mainly the cyst. The good news is, they couldn’t find the cyst! So, they assume that it’s gone. The baby is doing great though. He’s still stubborn and they could barely get a profile shot.

The finally got a vague one and he had his hand on his head with his knee up to his face. He’s head down too, yay! The doctor also said that he is still a boy, or a girl with testicles. Let’s hope he just has one gender though!

We have basically everything ready to go. I still need to pack a hospital bag for myself and the baby and Jamie is going to throw a change of clothes in my bag too. Only four more weeks until we’re full term so I guess I should really get on that!

One night when I should have been working I was looking through the Google Readers ‘explore’ section just to have a look at other feeds that I may be interested in. In these blog postings was a bunch of creative blog posts from a website that featured people’s blogs that had creative do-it yourself type things.

I ran across one which tickled my fancy. It was decorative letters for names, made from cardboard and scrapbooking paper! I thought, wow, I can actually do that! You can look at it on the website Craft Envy.

It took me a few days because I had to trace the letters off my computer screen (no printer in our room and didn’t want to bug mom), I ended up sadly cutting the letters out of the paper with a knife because I couldn’t find the scissors that were in the room, and had to bug mom later for a glue stick and an exacto knife. However, I got it done!

I must say, that they turned out pretty damn good. Too bad about the wood paneled walls, eh?

Total cost: $0. I already had the scrapbooking paper because I had bought it previously. Obviously the cardboard didn’t cost anything! Just some time from me. Better than spending $13 a letter that we were looking at in Kohl’s. Just looking, no way would we spend that much on letters!!

Happy Valentine’s Day

I hope you all had a great Valentine’s Day. We don’t do much on this day because we think it’s a bit of a silly holiday.

So instead, I actually got off my butt and made a cake!

Our poor Ruby

Posted in The Dogs on February 11th, 2010 by Sabriena – Be the first to comment

On Tuesday after we had come home from the doctor’s appointment, we had been downstairs talking to my mom downstairs. I had heard our dog upstairs yipping a couple of times but thought that she was getting into it with the cat that was also in our room, as it happens off and on. The yipping didn’t last very long so I thought nothing of it.

When we went upstairs, I noticed she was laying on her bed. I asked Jamie if she was in trouble because usually she jumps around and gets excited, she didn’t do any of that. He said maybe she’s just being a good girl. I thought, yea right!

So when my brother came into our room and she stayed there I thought, there’s something definitely wrong. I went to change my pants and she didn’t get up. So I told Jamie we need to look at her and figure out what’s wrong. She got up and had yipped like someone had kicked her.

She wouldn’t walk without yipping, she was shaking, and also breathing really heavy. Jamie checked out all her paws in case there was something stuck in her paw but found nothing. We got her to walk a bit, we had her roll on her back and she started urinating, which was worrisome as well! Finally, she laid down under Jamie’s chair and wouldn’t come out. She wouldn’t even come to us when we called her.

Right then we said she’s gotta go to the vet. It was 4pm and they close at 5pm unless you want to get charged for an after hours visit. So speedily (seriously, Jamie, who never speeds, was speeding! Thankfully, he stopped when I asked him to) we got in the car and took her to the vet.

We get there, find she weighs 80lbs and the vet sees her, after we had to muzzle her. She’s not socialized.

There’s a picture I was able to take with my phone when the vet was doing something else.

Well, he said he couldn’t find anything wrong with her. He said maybe she had sprained her back leg but he couldn’t tell. She didn’t walk funny, not once did she yip there (of course) and he pulled her legs, checked them all and even violated her by taking her temperature. He ended up giving her an anti-inflammatory pain medication to take for a week and sent us on our way.

Thankfully it didn’t cost too much, about $50 altogether which we were pleased about as we don’t have much money. That night she was chasing her tail and everything like normal. However, not well because she doesn’t charge up and down the stairs.

She’s getting better though and starting to take the stairs better. She hasn’t yipped since that night while walking or anything. We still don’t know what happened except maybe she jumped off our bed wrong since it’s pretty high up.

Who knows!
