Almost 41 weeks – He’s coming tomorrow!

Posted in Pregnancy on April 27th, 2010 by Sabriena – Be the first to comment

Well we had our last doctor’s appointment this morning. We said at the last one we wanted to wait and see if labor started on its own. However, with no progress, no contractions, and the like of course there was very, very little going on down there. I barely dilated anymore and what he did say I had, I think he was just throwing it out there and being nice about it! I did say I wasn’t expecting much though.

However, my blood pressure was up a bit and they were concerned so said that definitely we are going to the hospital tonight to start the induction before it turns into something bad, such as pre-eclampsia.

Jamie’s face lit up to find out that it is starting tonight. Of course he’s been waiting for Duncan to make his debut since 37 weeks at full term. However, he’s a stubborn little baby already and won’t budge!

We’re starting with the cervix softening tonight and then going into the pitocin which will start the contractions. I’m so nervous, excited and majorly worried. It’s very hard to believe that tomorrow, if all goes well, we’ll finally get to meet Duncan!

It feels like yesterday we got our positive pregnancy test seriously. It’s flown by.

I am sad that I had to take my wedding band off today so I don’t swell during labor or lose the ring. I haven’t had that ring off in who knows how many years. If that’s the worst thing I have to worry about, I think we’re doing good.

Next post will have tons of pictures of our little man.

Due date tomorrow…

Posted in Pregnancy on April 21st, 2010 by Sabriena – Be the first to comment

Well, actually according to the doctor’s office, my due date is today. However, according to my dates and the ultrasounds my date is tomorrow. So, I go by April 22nd being it.

Tomorrow we will be officially due. Does this guy want to come out? Heck no. At my appointment yesterday I was told he was still pretty high up (which hello, I could have told them that!), my  cervix is still pretty high up and I’m only 1.5cm dilated. Oh well! I know that means nothing really as it can happen at anytime.

However, if he doesn’t decide to make an appearance on his own by next Tuesday, we’ll be going in for an induction. From the looks of it, that is what we’ll be looking to as I’m not contracting or anything.

I’d rather him come on his own but he is Jamie’s child and is going to be a lazy guy!

It does seem surreal that the due date is tomorrow though. It feels like just last month we were finding out the gender and the month before we found out we were pregnant! Absolutely crazy how time flies.

I’ve been relaxing and just being a blob for the past week as I worked my tail off to take a month off for the baby’s arrival and such. It’s been nice but quite boring. I have no clue what to do if I’m not working and that is kind of sad!

So anyway, here’s hoping that Duncan comes out on his own! Either way next week we will finally meet him!

Non-medicated births – So tired of this

Posted in Pregnancy on April 17th, 2010 by Sabriena – Be the first to comment

Since becoming pregnant I frequent about two forums regularly that are about pregnancy and babies. I like to soak in a lot of information when doing something and obviously childbirth and pregnancy are a pretty huge part of what I am and have been about this past nine months.

Something that really irritates me on some of these threads is the discussion between medicated and non-medicated births. The comment that really really irritates me about women that get the epidural is along the lines of this: “I’m not trying to prove anything, there’s no medals for giving birth without drugs, so I won’t be doing it without them.”

Alright, that’s fine you don’t want to do it without an epidural. I personally couldn’t care less how someone has their child as long as they’re healthy and both of them come out alright. That’s all that matters in the end, right? Well, the main thing that irritates me is that most women (I don’t want to say all) that I’ve seen which want to try it without drugs is not for gloating rights, not to say that they are tougher than any other woman, and not for any medals. They want to do it because they feel it is better for them and the child.

My reasons for trying without an epidural? I already have a pretty messed up back from about 11 years ago in an accident. I don’t really feel like having a needle go into my spine to further any back problems. I would really like to be mobile as soon as possible after the birth as well, and not with assistance even though I’ll be sore and possibly tore!

Am I pushing the thoughts of medicine out if it’s way too painful for me? Of course not. It’s just not going to be something high on my list while I go into labor.

It’s just so irritating that women who do get epidurals as those that aren’t as they are trying to prove something. Don’t worry about how other people birth their babies and just worry about yourself.

Then again, that’s not what this world about, is it?

Definite Countdown

Posted in Pregnancy on April 15th, 2010 by Sabriena – Be the first to comment

We’re definitely getting into the home stretch, the very near home stretch of the pregnancy. Today marks 39 weeks and with only a week until our due date it’s down to the wire!

Our doctor doesn’t like people to go over 41 weeks so if this guy doesn’t come on his own soon we’ll be getting induced. Am I happy about that? Hell no. I would definitely rather him come on his own because then it’ll give me more of a fighting chance to do it without an epidural. At the last appointment it showed I was only a centimeter dilated but my cervix was right there as he put it.  However, I do know that makes no difference whatsoever!

We did almost all the final cleaning in the room and tomorrow we’ll be doing the last load of laundry of his like the sheet and such to get it all clean and ready for this little guy to come and use it.

Jamie is getting super impatient waiting for Duncan to come. He asks about four or five times a day when I’m going to give him his kid! I’d love to! He’s going to come out when he’s good and ready though, or when they make him!

I do have to say though that I have had a fantastic pregnancy. It really couldn’t have gone better so far. The only real thing that was a problem was my blood pressure, however, it could have been high before. Since I didn’t go to the doctors before we’ll never know! Everything else has gone great. I’m afraid the labor will be horrible because everything in the pregnancy has gone so well.

I would like it to hurry up and come and we can meet him and come home so then the waiting is over and we can start being a little family! Which is freaking insane to think!

I started my “self made” maternity leave today. I’ll probably end up working though until he’s born after I get the major things done. There just isn’t much to do when I’m not working! I guess that’s something that sucks about working from home.

Have to clean off the bed and jump in the shower though. Maybe I’ll do some relaxing after that!

Getting There

Posted in Pregnancy on April 7th, 2010 by Sabriena – Be the first to comment

Tomorrow we’re going to be 38 weeks and we are definitely getting down to the final countdown. It’s so nerve wracking (wrecking? I never know which it is) to say the least. Some days I feel super ready and other days I can’t imagine that we’re going to have a baby! I suppose that’s normal though!

My doctor doesn’t let women go more than a couple days over their due dates until inducing them. On one hand that’s good because it means I won’t have to be overdue a long time but on the other hand I think it’s horrible since 40 weeks is only an estimated due date. Like I said to Jamie and my Mom, I’m sure in two weeks I’ll be totally fed up and looking forward to an induction.

In non-pregnancy things though, Jeremy had some Easter pictures taken. He was wearing a little suit and looked like a proper little man. They’re adorable. I can’t wait to see the prints either. I’ve only seen the pictures printed out on the paper (order form) as well as online. However, with the online ones they intentionally make them smaller and blurry so you can’t just snag them and make copies of them yourself. They have to try to get that $20 for a sheet of pictures out of you!

Speaking of Easter, it was a good one this year. I’m not really into Easter though. I think it’s quite worthless. Could have something to do with not being religious, who knows. Mom made corn and potato salad along with the ham for dinner. Oh man it was so delicious. For dessert she made a pineapple upside down cake that was every sweet tooth’s dream! I could have eaten the whole thing on my own for sure! The potato salad, oh geesh, it was absolutely heaven as well, and the ham was gorgeous and delicious, aside from the nasty ass cloves in it though! It was a great Easter dinner! Look at me, rave about food. Man…
