Homemade name sign

One night when I should have been working I was looking through the Google Readers ‘explore’ section just to have a look at other feeds that I may be interested in. In these blog postings was a bunch of creative blog posts from a website that featured people’s blogs that had creative do-it yourself type things.

I ran across one which tickled my fancy. It was decorative letters for names, made from cardboard and scrapbooking paper! I thought, wow, I can actually do that! You can look at it on the website Craft Envy.

It took me a few days because I had to trace the letters off my computer screen (no printer in our room and didn’t want to bug mom), I ended up sadly cutting the letters out of the paper with a knife because I couldn’t find the scissors that were in the room, and had to bug mom later for a glue stick and an exacto knife. However, I got it done!

I must say, that they turned out pretty damn good. Too bad about the wood paneled walls, eh?

Total cost: $0. I already had the scrapbooking paper because I had bought it previously. Obviously the cardboard didn’t cost anything! Just some time from me. Better than spending $13 a letter that we were looking at in Kohl’s. Just looking, no way would we spend that much on letters!!

Well, our mattress for Duncan’s crib finally came yesterday and we were finally able to put the crib together. We didn’t figure we were getting it yesterday as the UPS man had already come and gone. However, it came through FedEx!

Jamie bolted downstairs (literally). I don’t think I’ve ever seen that man run downstairs so fast for anything before! So of course when he brought it upstairs I dropped everything and Jamie and I set it up!

I love this Winnie the Pooh set. It’s adorable! Ever since I saw it, I said when/if we had a kid we would get that set. It almost didn’t happen until my mom bought it for us! I’m soooo thankful. It’s adorable with the crib!

We put the toys we’ve gotten so far. The Winnie the Pooh is from Shaina, the orange Dr. Seuss is from my mom and the giraffe was a gift I got for Jamie for the baby since he saw it and fell in love with it.

Having the crib set up in all its glory is so surreal. It brings it to reality even more than the kicking baby in my stomach that this baby is coming and soon!

Yesterday the travel system for the baby arrived! We’re pretty excited because it means that the baby now officially has something to come home in.

Okay,  so he would’ve had something to come home in anyway. We were planning on using Jeremy’s old car seat if we were unable to get one of our own, just so he could come home and so on.

However, Jamie did some trickery (selling our items from the game Maplestory we were obsessed with long away and then selling the in game currency for real currency) to get a game for himself as well as the baby’s travel system.

We couldn’t help it and we opened it last night, not taking it out of the box though. Today though, we took the car seat out of the box. Gorgeous! The colors and padding was so much more than what we expected. It was only $125 so we figured we were settling because it’s not the one we originally wanted. We’re so pleased with it though!

You can kind of see it, the design is called Alphabet Soup with the alphabet and leaves. The colors are just gorgeous and so much better than the picture!

75 days to go until the due date..but who’s counting?

It’s been a little while since I did a pregnancy post, or even a regular post for that matter. I’m so horribly lazy sometimes.

I just thought I’d do a bit of an update I guess. The pregnancy is going well still. The blood pressure has been down my past two appointments and I haven’t had any problems with anything else. I took the glucose test at my 24 or 25th appointment and they didn’t say anything to me at last weeks so I’m assuming it was alright. If not, I’m sure I’ll hear about it soon enough.

Jamie and I were able to purchase the crib a couple weeks ago. I had been stressing a bit about it because things just haven’t been going to plan lately. Then again, what does in life? Yesterday we were able to purchase the travel system.

Also, as a gift for our birthdays, Christmas, baby gift, anything else you can throw in there, Mom bought the mattress, bedding set, a portable rocker bouncer chair, and a nursing pillow for the baby/us. I’m so incredibly grateful for everything she’s doing for us! She has no idea.

All this weight has been lifted from the stress of getting the major things but Jamie and my mom just swept all that off in one day together. Whew!

Duncan was a pill at the last appointment! They couldn’t find his heartbeat and they tried for about five minutes (or if felt that way). I wasn’t worried though as I felt him moving the entire way to the doctor’s as well as in the waiting room. I knew he was in there playing games! Finally they found it and it was of course fine and at 140bpm.

Other than that, I was told again, that I was entirely too easy as I have no questions or problems going on. I would rather have nothing wrong going on!!

About a week for our next appointment and about a month until our ultrasound to check up on the cyst and perhaps the position of the baby. Not quite sure. I know the cyst though definitely!

Can you believe that January is almost over already? It feels like it just began! However, we’ve had a lot happen in the 16 days of the new year. With finding out that we’re having a boy, doctor appointments, as well as a family emergency, I am really looking forward to some calm days!

I took my glucose test on my last appointment and you know, it wasn’t that bad. I had the fruit punch drink and it just tasted like Kool-Aid where someone was just a bit heavy handed with the sugar. Think little kids making Kool-Aid and you’ll know the taste! I won’t know the results until my next appointment I’m sure. However, I figured if there was a problem they would have probably called to have me come in. I don’t know how these things go, I’m just assuming!

At that appointment the midwife (whom I’ve had twice now and really like her, but now that I’ve said it I’ll get someone else next time!) checked the uterus size, by feeling and measuring. She said that I jumped from 22 weeks to 28 weeks in size. She also said with a growth spurt like that, if I hadn’t had an ultrasound and knew we were only having one baby they would have given me an ultrasound to look for twins. I thought that was funny.

Around Wednesday, my little brothers Dad was taken to the hospital with suspicions of a stroke or heart attack. He was talking gibberish, combative, and didn’t know who anyone was. Thankfully, it was not a stroke or anything but swelling of the brain from another condition that they found. Also, thankfully, he is back to normal and only has to spend six more days in the hospital so he is doing well. We figured that this was going to start out just another bad year like last year.

I suppose someone is really looking out for that man since five years ago he got sick and was in a coma for a long time. A lesson for all to take care of themselves and love live, it’s short definitely.

Even all that, since he’s doing well, so far this year hasn’t been horrible in the slightest. Still doing well except that one of our cars is acting up! Always something with our cars. The Suburban hates winters and developed a flat while Jamie and Trevor were out getting wood, we haven’t fixed it yet though, and the Olds has something going on with its breaks that Jamie has to look at tomorrow.

Like I said though, so far this year hasn’t been horrible. How can it when I have Duncan building forts in the womb and I’ve been able to actually see the movements for a couple weeks now. It’s fascinating. I’m also almost in third trimester in our pregnancy. Before we know it, I’ll be going into labor and Jamie and I will be making posts on our websites welcoming our little bundle.
