Duncan’s Debut

Well, the long awaited day has come. The little parasite that I carried for 41 weeks made his debut on April 28, 2010 even though he didn’t want to! As I wrote previously, I went in on April 27th to the hospital to start the induction process since I had made no progress and my blood pressure was up once again.
The induction wasn’t too bad. Not nearly as bad as what I thought it was going to be. They started me on something called cervidal which softens your cervix and can start labor. Start it indeed. I went from a tight 2 dilation to about a 6 (which one woman said it was 7.5 to an 8 but the other said she was too generous and I was a 6). Either way it had begun and I was feeling it.
They went ahead and took the cervidal out earlier than intended because of the quick progress. They called it quick, it was about 10 hours of contractions for me! Not quick but not horrible either. I dealt with it. They then broke my water and my progression was too slow so put me on pitocin.
This kid still did not want to drop down with all this going on. They said he was about a -2 which is still high up there. I went ahead and got an epidural after giving no medication my best shot. A little after getting the epidural I started getting horribly intense pains in my “nether regions”. It was bringing me to tears! They checked me and said I went from the -2 station to about a +1 which was three stations in about 30 minutes. I also had dilated from the 6-7 to about a 9 in that thirty minutes. So it was some pretty bad pains. However, they came back in and put more stuff in my epidural.
A little after noon we got the okay to start pushing. It took me a bit to feel my muscles and get in the rhythm, however, 45 minutes later Duncan was born at 1:08pm and with a set of lungs on him like nobody’s business!
Jamie did a fantastic job being there for me the entire time. I couldn’t have asked for a better job. He was very attentive, concerned, supportive, and encouraging. When I said I didn’t think I could do it (about towards the crowning part I was told) he said I could and I was doing great. I can truly see how you could fall in love with someone all over again after ten years of marriage, because I did that day.
As well as falling in love with someone who you carried inside of you for 9 months but just met.
This…is gorgeous. We are head over heels. Although it’s a lot of hard work, this kid is worth every minute of it and he’s only three days old!
Our family is perfect now! Oh, and Ruby has taken to Duncan like no other. No jealousy from her (so far). She worries when he cries and tries to get little licks in on his head, although we tell her to wait until he’s a bit older to start the licking, she still sneaks it in.
